It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Neal Sharp. He passed away on Oct. 2, 2024, at the age of 79. Doug was diagnosed with stage-four pancreatic cancer on July 16. It gave him great pleasure that many friends and relatives had a chance to visit him before he declined.
Doug will be remembered for his endless charm and his sense of humor. With his quick wit and unique ability to frame a situation, he put smiles on the faces of those around him daily.
Born in Ancon City, Panama, to Ardyth Lamb and William Sharp in 1945, Doug lived a long and fascinating life. A jack of all trades, he was a general contractor in California and later used that knowledge to construct our family home. His first license was for concrete, and he later worked in solar energy design and installation. He sold wood and pellet stoves, concrete footers and eventually took up ranching. He, Jamie and their family bred and raised llamas and Gypsy horses for much of their life together.
Doug became passionate about wastewater systems and founded Eco-Safe Wastewater with his friend of many years, Paul. Doug was a passionate learner, a good teacher, and an honest businessman. He enjoyed connecting with old friends on Facebook and reading about new technologies in many sectors.
Doug will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jamie, as well as his four children, David, John, Alex and Kate; daughter-in-law Jennifer; and his younger sister, Rebecca Stoffer. Doug was a patient, involved, and doting father, and an incredible husband.
A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice House at Mercy CommonSpirit Hospital in Durango for the skilled, careful and compassionate care given to Doug and to our family. In lieu of flowers, please send a story about Doug to dougsharp123@gmail.com.
The family is organizing a memorial book for his future grandchildren. We want them to know the wonderful man he was.
